Marcus Mariota graces the national cover of Sports Illustrated

Redshirt sophomore quarterback has earned the distinction of appearing on the national cover Sports Illustrated, which came out today.

Mariota, who is garnering national attention for his performance this season, is appearing on the cover of the magazine for the second time this season. In the college football preview, published in August, he appeared on a regional cover. His 2013 campaign is headlined by 2,281 yards of passing, 511 yards of rushing while accounting for 29 total touchdowns for the Ducks.

The headline, ”The Colossus,” is shown with a photograph of Mariota losing his Nike cleat. The secondary headline says: “Oregon redefined West Coast football, now it’s time to conquer America (they’re coming for you, SEC.)”

The issue includes a feature piece by SI writer Austin Murphy which covers in detail the rise of the Pac-12 as No. 2 Oregon prepares to travel to No. 5 Stanf0rd in a game which will have national championship implications on Nov. 7.
