Charlotte 49ers Head Coach Alan Major has announced that sophomore forward Marcus Bryan has left the 49ers and will transfer to another program.

Bryan did not cite a specific reason behind his decision to transfer from the 49ers but he did comment on the situation saying “I would like to thank Coach Major, the staff, and my teammates for their support during my time at Charlotte. However, I feel it is in my best interest to head in a different direction at this time.”

There has been no indication as to where Bryan plans to play next but if he decides to transfer to another Division I school he will have to sit out during the 2014-15 season.

“We want to thank Marcus for all his efforts this past season,” said Major. “We wish him nothing but the best as he seeks his future opportunities.”

Bryan saw minutes in 31 games off of the bench during his freshman year with the 49ers, playing a crucial role on a front line that lacked depth behind starters Willie Clayton and Mike Thorne Jr. Bryan averaged 3.5 points per game while shooting 46 percent from the field during the 2013-14 campaign. He also contributed 2.5 rebounds per game throughout his freshman season.

The 49ers will look to Bernard Sullivan, a transfer from Clemson, to fill the void left by Bryan’s departure. Sullivan was rated as a four-star prospect by Rivals.com coming out of Davidson Day where he played his high school ball. He appeared in 56 games over the course of two seasons with the Tigers, scoring 89 total points and grabbing 66 rebounds in limited action off of the bench.
