Ashlee Moore sits in fifth place in women’s heptathlon through first two events

Incoming freshman Ashlee Moore began the morning session at the IAAF World Junior Championships on the right foot. Moore, who entered the competition as the U.S. heptathlon champion, finished second in the 100 meter hurdles with a personal best 13.59 time.

She was awarded 1037 points for her second place finish and ranked second heading into the next event.

In the women’s high jump, her second and final event of day one, Moore struggled. Despite holding a 1.78 meter personal best, Moore failed to overcome the 1.73 meter height three times prior to her finish. She finished in a two-way tie for eighth place with Canada’s Georgia Ellenwood. 

As the first day of the women’s heptathlon comes to a close, Moore sits in fifth place with 1928 points. Currently leading the event is Great Britain’s Morgan Lake with 2096 points.

Competition will continue this afternoon and tomorrow at Historic Hayward Field.
