However, Moore was tripped up around the 600 meter mark. Following the accident, Moore struggled to regain her edge, eventually falling to seventh place in 2:08.01.

“I got tripped up and then it all went wrong,” Rogers said. “She clipped my back ankle and I felt a little burst after that; tried to get back in it. I wasn’t hurt, but I tried to get back on my game mentally.”

Despite not qualifying, Moore didn’t attribute her disappointing finish to an injury or incident.

“I was kind of thrown of the track, but I’m not using that as an excuse because I know I could have done better.”

Rogers held the second fastest personal best (2:03.32) among her heat three competitors.

“Everything happens for a reason,” Rogers said. “The way I see it, I just got to get stronger mentally and start working on keeping my game plan after things like that happen.”

Finishing first was Ethiopia’s Zeyituna Mohammed, who recorded a 2:04.47 time. Also qualifying were Morroco’s Sara Souhi (2:06.38), Kenya’s Maximila Imali (2:06.91) and Canada’s Erinn Stenman-Fahey (2:06.97).
