McGwire averaged 21.8 points, 14.3 rebounds and 6.9 blocked shots per game this year for Reno High while being named Gatorade Nevada Girls Basketball Player of the Year for 2015. She also won the award as a sophomore.

“He’s [Graves] always worked so hard in recruiting me, and they just make me feel at home,” McGwire told the Emerald Friday night. “I love their coaching staff. … I love Eugene. It’s the perfect fit.”

McGwire’s club team, CalStars, is playing in the Salem Tip-off this weekend. She visited campus Friday unofficially to give Graves and his staff an in-person commitment. She met Lexi Bando and Jacinta Vandenberg on Friday.

“They’re just so determined to turn their program around,” McGwire said of the Ducks, who finished 13-17 last season. “I’m super excited to hopefully help with that.”

McGwire selected the Ducks over Washington, Oregon State and Colorado.

She’s ranked 11th nationally among 2016 centers by ESPN HoopGurlz and 46th nationally among all players by ProspectsNation.com. McGwire was also named to the Las Vegas Review-Journal‘s all-state girls basketball team in March.

“She’s as athletic as anyone on the floor,” Reno High head coach Shane Foster said in March. “She’s just taller than everyone else. She gets better every year. It’s just amazing. Her shot from 10 to 12 feet is really good.”

The McGwire family is no stranger to the sports world. Her uncle is former MLB All-Star Mark McGwire and her dad is former NFL QB Dan McGwire, who played for the Seahawks and Dolphins.

McGwire joins Jayde Woods, a 6-foot guard, and Sierra Campisano, a 6-foot-3 forward, as Graves’ other 2016 verbal commits.

“I’m excited to get to work with an actual post coach and work on my skills,” McGwire said.
