Oregon softball sweeps Louisiana Lafayette, acrobatics and tumbling falls in NCATA Championship

Oregon finished a busy weekend of spring sports, with multiple Duck teams facing off in competition.

– Oregon softball also had a good weekend, sweeping Louisiana-Lafayette at Howe Field and improving to 41-5 on the season. The Ducks won the first game in a run-ruled fashion, 10-2, while winning the second 2-1 in eight innings. It was a battle of top-ranked teams, with the Ducks coming in at No. 2 and the Ragin’ Cajuns ranked at No. 9.

-Oregon baseball stifled rival Washington in a 4-3 win on Saturday . The Ducks were able to make the most of their opportunities, watching as the Huskies struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities — leaving 12 runners on base. The play of the game came early, after Jakob Goldfarb robbed a three run home run to end the first frame. In addition, Oregon won on Sunday to win the series.

-The result of the National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association National Championship didn’t go as planned for Oregon. The acrobatics and tumbling team had to watch as Baylor jumped up and celebrated to the tune of R. Kelly’s “World Greatest” after defeating the Ducks 286.690-282.870.

“We’ve had a lot of highs and a lot of lows, but this team has really learned a lot and fought to the finish,” coach Chelsea Shaw said in a release. “I am really proud of their performance, this week in particular.”

-The contingent of athletes Oregon track and field sent to the Penn Relays came away with several victories. The men’s distance medley relay team was able to defend its championship, while the women’s sprint medley barely edged out Clemson to claim of victory of its own.

-Oregon lacrosse lost its penultimate match of the regular season, falling 15-9 to Denver. The poor result came despite three goals each from Senior Casey Brogan and Junior Carly O’Connell.
