Deadline Approaching for Scholarship Program Benefitting First-Year Law Students

The LMJ Scholarship Program will award up to $150,000 in scholarships for the 2015-16 academic year

NASHVILLE, Tenn. May 1, 2015 – Time is running out for law-school bound college students to submit an application for a chance at winning a $10,000 scholarship.

This year, the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) LMJ Scholarship Program will award up to 15 scholarships of $10,000 each to students beginning their law school journey in fall 2015. The program is currently open and accepting online application submissions until May 15, 2015.

Established to nurture the academic and professional careers of outstanding law students, the LMJ Scholarship Program has provided financial assistance totaling over $2.7 million dollars to help more than 150 students pursue a law degree since its inception in 2004.

“The legal pipeline for minority students has become increasingly constricted. MCCA’s scholarship program is the centerpiece of our effort to address this issue,” said Joseph K. West, MCCA’s President and CEO.

To be eligible for this scholarship, students must:
• Have an interest in corporate law and diversity
• Be financially disadvantaged and have completed the FAFSA
• Have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.2
• Be accepted into an ABA-accredited U.S. law school for a full-time Juris Doctorate Program on or before the application deadline (to start in fall 2015)

Recipients are selected based on academic achievement, community involvement, financial need and essay responses. Recipients who maintain good academic standing may be eligible for additional scholarship monies for up to two additional years.
