UCLA baseball secures No. 1 seeding in NCAA Tournament

UCLA baseball was named the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament on Monday morning. It’s the first time UCLA baseball has ever been awarded the No. 1 overall seed in school history.

The No. 1 overall seeding grants UCLA hosting rights for not only an NCAA regional this weekend, but an NCAA Super Regional next weekend, if the Bruins get there.

In this weekend’s NCAA regional, No. 1 UCLA (42-14) will host a trio of unranked teams: Cal State Bakersfield (36-22-1), Maryland (39-21) and Ole Miss (30-26). The regional will follow a double-elimination format, and three wins are needed to advance to the NCAA Super Regional.

UCLA’s first game of the regional will be against Cal State Bakersfield, the Western Athletic Conference tournament champions, on Friday at 8 p.m. in Jackie Robinson Stadium. The game will be broadcasted on ESPNU.
