Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker appointed the five members to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s Fiscal Management and Control Board Friday afternoon after signing the budget for fiscal year 2016.

The FMCB was a recommendation by the MBTA Special Panel Baker selected in February to address the effects that the past winter weather had upon MBTA service, The Daily Free Press reported on Feb. 26.

“Fixing the MBTA will be a complex task, but moving forward with a Fiscal Management and Control Board dedicated solely to the T’s operations and finances is an important step toward delivering accountability for taxpayers and riders,” Baker said in a release.

Heading the FMCB will be Joseph Aiello, a partner and director of business development at Meridiam, an infrastructure firm. Lisa Calise, Brian Lang, Steve Poftak and Monica Tibbits-Nutt join Aiello as members of the board.

Massachusetts Department of Transportation Secretary Stephanie Pollack said signing the budget and appointing members of the board are crucial to begin fixing the T.

“By signing this bill into law we now have two crucial tools to begin fixing the MBTA, a dedicated group focused solely on the T and new tools that will allow the MBTA to operate more reliable services, repair critical infrastructure and explore more efficient ways to serve our riders,” Pollack said in the release.

The FMCB will hold its first meeting on July 21 to begin addressing the concerns of the MBTA.
