Oregon women’s basketball assistant head coach Mark Campbell was promoted to associate head coach, head coach Kelly Graves announced on Monday morning via a release from the Oregon athletic department.

Campbell, in his second season in Eugene, was key in assembling the No. 7 ranked 2016 recruiting class, according to ESPN, which rated four of Oregon’s six signees as top-100 prospects. The class was ranked No. 16 nationally by ProspectsNation.com.

“Mark is an incredibly valuable piece of my coaching staff,” Graves said in a release. “He’s a tireless worker and tremendous recruiter.”

Graves said he first discussed a potential promotion when Campbell was hired in April 2014.

“He’s a team guy,” Graves told the Emerald. “He’s not about the title or that kind of thing. I think it means a lot to him, and he was very appreciative, no question. But, it’s not going to change who he is or how we do things. We all have a division of labor here.”

Campbell received the same promotion at Oregon State in 2013, from assistant coach to associate head coach.

“I am humbled by this promotion and extremely grateful for the opportunity Coach Graves has given me to be a part of this amazing staff and athletic department,” Campbell said in a release. “I am very excited about the foundation we are laying here and the future of Oregon women’s basketball.”

This year, Campbell is Graves’ highest-paid assistant coach at $150,000 a year. An Oregon spokesman said Campbell’s contact will not change as a result of the promotion.

“He’s really nice. He’s great,” Oregon signee Morgan Yaeger said in May. “He’s so positive. Like the whole team, he’s very family-oriented and helpful.”

Campbell has perviously worked with the St. Mary’s and Pepperdine men’s teams, before taking the Oregon job after four years at Oregon State working with the women’s program.

“I always had it in my mind that this was going to happen,” Graves said.
