Berkeley Police Department released a Nixle alert Tuesday about 10:38 a.m. seeking assistance in the unsolved murder of Alex Goodwin Jr., in light of the recent two-year anniversary of his passing Aug. 19, 2016.

Officers responded to reports of gunshots in the San Pablo Park neighborhood just before midnight Aug. 18, 2016, and found Goodwin unresponsive, according to BPD alerts. Goodwin, who was 22 at the time, had been shot. He was pronounced dead at Alameda Hospital several hours later. Two years since the murder, BPD has not solved the case.

“Detectives believe there are individuals with information about this case and are asking for their help,” the alert said. “Even the smallest detail could be critical in solving this crime.”

According to Berkeleyside, in January 2017, relatives and friends of Goodwin urged police to do more with the investigation to obtain justice for him while at a community meeting with city officials, which was organized to address gun violence in Berkeley.

This Tuesday’s alert urged anyone who may have information about the murder to call the BPD Homicide Unit or BPD’s 24-hour nonemergency number. The city is offering a $15,000 reward for information about the suspect or suspects.
