Berkeley Police Department, or BPD, released a Nixle alert at approximately 6:45 p.m. Tuesday about a stabbing that occurred around 2:47 a.m. the same day.

The alert said that officers responded to a call in a home on the 1500th block of Edith Street about a woman screaming for help. Upon arrival, officers found that a woman in her late 70’s had been stabbed, according to the alert.

According to the alert, the suspect has been identified as Mark Edward Jekabson — a white male, 42, 5-foot-11, about 160 lbs, with brown hair and blue eyes. The alert added that Jekabson frequents Live Oak park and the Solano Avenue corridor, and advised community members to call 911 immediately if they see the suspect, as he may be armed and dangerous.
