The body of UC Berkeley School of Law student Brian Lewinstein, who slipped and fell down a waterfall at Toketee Falls in Oregon, has been located, as first reported by the San Francisco Chronicle.

Lewinstein, 23, was believed by officials to have crossed a safety fence to take a photograph from above the falls when he slipped and fell down the embankment, off the hills and into the water.

According to the Chronicle, two hikers saw his body in the second pool of the waterfall about 5:45 p.m. Thursday. Search and rescue crews brought his body back to the trail from the pool about 10 p.m.

Rescue crews told the Chronicle in August that they believed Lewinstein fell into the upper pool and may have been carried over the second fall.

At the time of his death, Lewinstein had finished working as a juvenile defense intern at the East Bay Community Law Center, where his supervisor and director of the Youth Defender Clinic Tony Cheng described him as well-liked and outgoing.

“We are glad that we were able to provide his family with some answers and sincerely hope that they are able to find some comfort in the fact that he was located. Our heartfelt thoughts go out to his family and friends,” said Sgt. Brad O’Dell in a press release from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
