A stabbing that led to the death of an Athens man early Sunday morning was the result of a fight between students from Federal Hocking and Warren high schools over a girl, according to the Washington County sheriff.
“There was some bantering going on between students from Federal Hocking and Warren (high schools),” said Washington County Sheriff Larry R. Mincks, adding that inquires into the stabbing show that at least two of the six people involved in the scuffle appeared to be arguing over a girl.
Lamarr R. Wilder, 19, of 802 Hope Dr., was stabbed during a fight at a graduation party in Belpre. Wilder died before reaching St. Joseph’s Hospital in Parkersburg, W. Va., according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
Wilder was stabbed in the femoral artery after a 17-year-old suspect from Coolville allegedly began swinging a knife around to keep people taking part in the brawl away, said Mincks.
The teenager could be charged for Wilder’s stabbing after the Washington County Sheriff’s Office concludes its investigation in the next couple weeks, said Mincks.
The sheriff’s office responded to a call about the stabbing at 1:38 a.m. Sunday, according to the release. Before the fight, about 30 teenagers were at the graduation party, where a keg of beer and other alcohol was served.
