Vanderbilt pitcher plans to transfe

Vanderbilt relief pitcher Richie Goodenow took his game to the next level with his noteworthy performance during the College World Series. Now, he is looking to take his game elsewhere.

The southpaw plans to enroll at crosstown Lipscomb for his final year of collegiate eligibility, where he will compete for a spot in their starting rotation while likely enrolling in the university’s graduate school. Though he has yet to be accepted to the program, Goddenow is confident he will be taking the mound for the Bisons next season.

“It’s what’s best for me,” said Goodenow in an interview with The Tennessean’s Jeff Lockridge. “I didn’t have the highest GREĀ (Graduate Record Examination) score at Vanderbilt, but Lipscomb is a much more affordable place for me right now.”

Goodenow, whose earned run average (ERA) was 2.23 last season, figures to significantly upgrade a Lipscomb staff whose combined ERA was 7.54. He finishes his Vanderbilt career with a 5-2 record in 70 appearances, including two starts.
