Former Iowa running back Brandon Wegher plans a transfer to Oklahoma

By Oklahoma Daily Staff Reports

Iowa sophomore running back Brandon Wegher told the Des Moines Register on Thursday that he plans to transfer from Iowa to the University of Oklahoma.

As a freshman in 2009, Wegher set an Iowa record for touchdowns by a freshman in a season (eight).

Wegher left the team for personal reasons before the start of the 2010 season, when the Hawkeyes finished 8-5 (4-4 Big Ten) on the back of sophomore Adam Robinson’s 941 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.

If he is eligible to play, the 5-foot-11-inch, 206-pound back would join sophomores Roy Finch and Brennan Clay in the Sooners’ backfield, helping to fill the vacuum space following the graduation of seniors DeMarco Murray and Mossis Madu.

It isn’t clear whether he will have to sit out a year for transferring, even though he didn’t play college football last season.
