McGee to stay at Arkansas

By Jimmy Carter

Arkansas offensive coordinator Garrick McGee withdrew his name from consideration for the Tulsa head coaching job, according to a UA release.

McGee was considered the front-runner for the job and multiple Tulsa outlets reported he was in negotiations to accept the offer last night. The 37-year old served as the Hogs’ quarterback coach for two seasons before adding offensive coordinator to his title this season.

“I have decided to withdraw my name from consideration for the head coach position at Tulsa,” McGee said. “My goal is to one day be a head coach and there are a number of considerations that factor into when that time will come. I appreciate the opportunity Tulsa gave me to meet about their program and wish them the best of luck in their search. I look forward to continuing to work with Coach Petrino towards our goal of winning championships.”

McGee also interviewed for the UConn job since Arkansas’ season ended. He helped the Razorbacks lead the Southeastern Conference in passing offense and rank No. 4 in the nation. The Hogs also finished No. 9 nationally in total offense.
