Sandusky under investigation for further involvement in children’s charities

The Pennsylvania State Police are now investigating former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky’s involvement with children that were part of another charity, The Fresh Air Fund, Andrea Kotuk, the organization’s public relations consultant, said.

Kotuk said Sandusky hosted one child in his home in State College in the mid-1990s and the information has been forwarded to State Police.

The Fresh Air Fund is a non-profit organization based out of New York City that provides inner city children with the opportunity to stay in a suburban or rural home over the summer to foster growth.

Sandusky was charged last week with 40 counts on seven different charges of allegedly sexually abusing eight young boys over more than a decade. According to the grand jury presentment, Sandusky met the boys he abused through the charity he founded, The Second Mile.

Kotuk said The Fresh Air fund is continuing to search its files throughout the day Tuesday because the Sandusky family may have hosted several children in the 1970s, as well. She said this information will also be forwarded to the state police for investigation.

Kotuk said no additional information regarding the child that was hosted in the 1990s will be released to the public.

The Fresh Air Fund has provided opportunities for more than 1.5 million children since 1877.
