The former Speaker of the House from Georgia spoke to about 500 people for 45 minutes on a largely energy-based railing of the Obama administration – though he drew his fair share of laughs through biting banter.
While continuing the Etch A Sketch — themed assault on former Massachusetts Governor and GOP front-runner Mitt Romney that was visible throughout the day’s speeches, Gingrich managed to elaborate in-depth plans for the energy sector that he said would pull the country through hard economic times.
His main point was that $2.50 gasoline prices were absolutely a possibility in the near future.
Gingrich challenged Obama’s membership to the “Sierra Club Flat Earth Society” and said that if elected, he would solve both domestic and foreign policy problems through a plan largely consisting of increased domestic drilling.
Gingrich also touted his political resume as Speaker of the House, citing low gas prices and jobless rates during his tenure.
At the heart of his speech, Gingrich proposed that he was the candidate to beat Obama.
“I’m the candidate that knows how to design a winning national campaign,” Gingrich said.
