Art to be auctioned

The University Art Association will hold the annual Art Auction 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28. Artwork made by students and faculty will be auctioned. Those wishing to donate artwork must have it turned in by 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, to 104 Porter Hall.


Throwback Game Night

The Residence Hall Assembly will be pairing with Jungle Nights and presenting a retro “Throwback Night” where students will be able to play games that they did as children. This event will be from 10 p.m.-1 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at the Student Rec Center.


Open mic night

Students are invited to showcase their talents at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb 26, in the U-Club of the Overman Student Center. The winner, chosen by audience members, will receive $100.


Active shooter training

PSU’s co-emergency managers, Steve Erwin and Mike McCracken, will provide training to the campus community on individual responses to hostile intruder-active shooter situations in the campus setting. The first session was on Tuesday, Feb. 19, in 107 Grubbs. A second session is set for from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, in the Governors Room of the Overman Student Center.


SAC film contest

The Student Activities Council is holding a short film contest for PSU students. Those who enter will have their film shown at The Burg Film Festival. The winner will receive $100. Application forms and information are located in the Campus Activities Center. Applications are due by 4 p.m. Monday, March 25, in the CAC office.


Family Art Morning

The University Art Association will hold a “Family Art Morning” from 10 a.m.-noon. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Porter Hall. All projects are designed to be relevant to kindergarten through seventh-grade students, but other grades are welcome to join in. A team of art education students designed these programs with members of the University Art Association.


Registration due for Big Event

Students and organizations have the opportunity to register for the 2013 Big Event. The website to register on is https://go.pittstate.edu/bigevent. The deadline to register is Friday, March 15. The first 500 to register get a free T-shirt.


Lunch and Learn

Chi Sigma Iota, graduate counseling honor society, will be hosting a “Lunch and Learn” from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, in the basement of the PSU Alumni Center. Harriet Bachner will present on the topic “Innovations in Treatment of Complex Trauma.” Those who attend are welcome to bring a brown-bag lunch.


Same-sex marriage speaker

Student Activities Council is hosting a speech by Zach Wahls at 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, McCray Hall. He will speak on the topic of same-sex marriage, using personal experience as the child of a lesbian couple in the talk.


Fashion show

In honor of Black History Month, students will hold a fashion show, showing business and casual outfits alike from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, in the Crimson and Gold Ballroom.


Recital

Missouri State University faculty members Anne Marie Daehn and Peter Collins will perform a recital from 3:30-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, in the Sharon Kay Dear Recital Hall of McCray Hall.


Technology college open house postponed

The College of Technology’s open house, originally scheduled for Friday, Feb. 22, has been postponed because of predicted bad weather. The open house, held each semester, is designed to give high school students an up-close look at the college’s programs. Officials will announce the new open house date as soon as it is set.


Ambassador selection

PSU Student Ambassador applications are available and may be obtained in the Office of Admission in 107 Horace Mann or may be accessed at http://www.pittstate.edu/admission/undergraduate/ambassadors.dot. Applications are due Wednesday, March 6. Those who apply are required to attend one of the two selection workshops from 4-6 p.m. Monday, March 11, or 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 12.


39th jazz Festival

The 39th annual PSU Jazz Festival will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 1, at Memorial Auditorium in downtown Pittsburg. The Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Band will be headlining the performance. It is one of the largest one-day public school competitions in the Midwest. Tickets may be purchased at the PSU Ticket Office.
