Three amendments to the ASUO Constitution to be voted on this week

The amendments will gauge student support for the addition of members to the Programs Finance Committee and for a second ASUO Vice President. Last weekend, 13 members of the senate signed a Letter to the Editor supporting a ‘yes’ vote for each one of the amendments.

The first amendment asks the student body whether or not they support having two active vice presidents. This amendment would allow the ASUO President to run with either one or two vice presidents. ASUO Vice President Nick McCain outlined the need for this amendment to be passed at the last ASUO Senate meeting, “I’m exhausted, and I would like to more effectively break up the responsibilities.”

The second amendment will make a few changes to the Programs Finance Committee by adding two additional members. The amendment would make the committee nine members instead of seven and ensure that four of the members sit on two-year seats.

“Over the past few years, PFC has grown to about 150 groups and the committee has remained the same size. It now seems natural to increase the number of PFC members,” Senator and PFC member Taylor Allison said.

The third amendment is similar to the PFC change, it would call for one additional member to be added to both the Departments Finance Committee and the Athletics and Contracts Finance Committee. This change would result in seven members on both committees and would make that member a two-year seat.

“This is a good change. It will get more students involved in the important financial decisions the ASUO makes for students every year,” Senator and ACFC member Ben Bowman said.

Two additional amendments were considered but will be delayed until Spring, according to ASUO Senator Ben Rudin.
