Ducks in 13th place after first round at Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship

After the first round at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship, the University of Oregon women’s golf team finished in 13th place in a pool of 18 teams. The Ducks are looking to improve upon their eighth-place finish from last season, but they will have to be at their best as they go face-to-face with some of better teams in the country.

In round one, the Ducks shot a 10-over 298 at the 6,105-yard, par-72 course and currently sit 12 spots behind Tulane, which recorded an impressive 6-under 282 finish. Duke and UCLA currently sit in a tie for second with 5-under 283.

Leading the way for the Ducks in the first round was Monica Petchakan, who finished the day with a 1-over 73 as she sits in a tie for 31st place. One stroke behind Petchakan was Cheyenne Burbank, who recorded a 2-over 74 to tie for 41st overall. Caroline Inglis finished in a tie for 54th place after shooting a 3-over 75.

Emily Penttila of Tulane led the way for all competitors with a 5-under 67 alongside her teammate Gemma Dryburgh, who finished just behind her with a 4-under 68 in a tie for second place. Alabama’s Stephanie Meadow finished the round with a 4-under 68 as well.

On the horizon. The Ducks will resume play at 7 a.m. Tuesday morning as they begin round two of play at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship. For all news and recaps check back here at the Emerald.
