NEWS: Former Surgeon General Koop ’37 dies at 96

Former United States Surgeon General C. Everett Koop ’37, an American pediatric surgeon best known for his work publicizing the harms of cigarette smoking in the 1980s, died Monday in his home in Hanover. At Dartmouth, Koop founded the C. Everett Koop Institute, an organization that has funded and initiated numerous events aimed at raising public awareness for health issues, at the Geisel School of Medicine. He was 96 years old.
