Conversations about institutionalizing the Oregon Athletic Bands have lead to the band being fully funded by the ASUO this year.

ASUO President Laura Hinman and members from the Department Finance Committee had conversations with Enrollment Management, the School of Music and Dance and Athletics about funding the band fully. Hinman said the talks went well and that in the future, the OAB’s budget may be moved.

“If there were to be a cut in the future, then they are committed to the band and they will work with the ASUO and OAB to fully fund their budget,” Hinman said. “The thing we ran into this year was that the university doesn’t go into their budget until May, but Nick and I are still committed to moving the budget as soon as next year.”

In a letter signed by Hinman, she stated that she recommended that the DFC should review the band’s request and fully fund it.
