Inspiration Straight from the Runway
Whether you’ll be spending spring break in your basement catching up on your Netflix Instant Watch Queue, on a school-sponsored service trip in South Dakota or lazing the days away on the beach in a land far away, there are a few Spring 2013 Ready-to-Wear trends that you can use to inspire your outfits for the one night you decide to paint the town red or even inspiration for everyday wear.
Cutouts were a major force on the Spring 2013 Ready-to-Wear runways. From Jason Wu to Badgley Mischka and BCBG Max Azria, every designer seemed to want to interpret the cutout trend. From peekaboo mesh covered flirty cutouts to more geometric and harness-like cutouts, designers did not disappoint with showing some unexpected flesh.
Many different takes on the cutout trends can be found in stores now with the most popular executions being on shirts and dresses. A chic and cheap option is the cutout back shirt available at www.forever21.com for $17.80. The shirt is a normal button down in the front with a sassy upper back cutout to show off your shoulder blades.
Another cutout option is the “Fresh Cut Dress” available at www.NastyGal.com for $58.00. The innocent floral mini-dress includes a plunging neckline and two large cutouts on either side of the waist for a sassy update to the classic floral mini.
Big bold stripes took center stage at many Spring 2013 Ready-to-Wear shows. The beauty of this uncomplicated pattern is that it never will go out of style and can be mixed and matched with a variety of trends in order to achieve a unique look.
Pair it with navy for a nautical look, denim for a preppy all-American look or mix two different striped pieces or a striped piece with another patterned piece for an unexpected twist.
Cute executions of the bold-stripe trend that won’t break the bank are available at many stores, but my two current favorites are available at the Gap and Etsy. The adorable striped-knit moto jacket in navy stripe available at www.gap.com is on sale for $54.99 is the perfect light jacket for a trip to the beach or for a casual dinner.
The black and white striped maxi skirt available in the babynightnight store on Etsy for a mere $30.00. Don’t let the name of the shop fool you, shop owner Tricia assures customers that her skirts can be worn by both pregnant and non-pregnant women alike. Fashion meets comfort in this bold striped maxi skirt and without a pesky elastic waistband, you can rock that extra trip to the buffet line on the spring break cruise without having to worry about any signs of a muffin top.
The sumptuous brocade of the Fall 2012 Ready-to-Wear lines were answered by the glamour treatment of several of the Spring 2013 Ready-to-Wear runways as intricate beading graced several runways.
From the Middle Eastern inspired Altuzarra, to the classy spunk of Oscar de la Renta, to the Indian inspired Marchesa line there was plenty of rich texture that walked down the runways.
The intricate beading of the Spring 2013 Ready-to-Wear runway can be seen in a variety of clothing pieces in stores now, but shoppers should be cautious to not overdue the beautiful beading.
The “Geo Bead Embellished Cami” available at www.topshop.com is the perfect way to give an extra kick to a high-waisted black circle skirt or even a bright coral pair of skinnies.
At $72.00, the cami is a bit of an expense, but the versatility of this beaded beauty can be dressed up or down no matter what the occasion to make you right on point with a top fashion trend.
For a more ethnic beading interpretation, look no farther than the embroidered shorts with beading available at www.zara.com for $79.90. These cute cream shorts come with little beaded clusters that give a distinctly Indian vibe to consumers.
Although the Spring 2013 Ready-to-Wear trends were far more extensive than this, any attempt to incorporate one (or all) of these three runway trends into your spring break wardrobe will give you a leg up on the fashion trends worn by elite fashionistas right now.
