Mike Berry won the men’s 400 meters in a season-best 46.03 seconds yesterday at the UW Final Qualifier. With his performance, Berry solidified his chances for a bid to next week’s NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Berry, a junior from Seattle, was quick out of the blocks and finished with the fourth fastest time in the NCAA this season. His 46.03 was just a tenth of a second off the indoor school record Berry set at the 2012 NCAA Championships.

In other action from Seattle, sophomore Johnathan Cabral won the men’s 60 meter hurdles in 7.79 seconds. The So-Cal native was just off a seasonal best of 7.75.

For the women, Annie Leblanc ran a personal best 4:37.93 to finish second in the women’s mile and Sarah Penney took sixth in 4:39.89.

Jillian Weir was second in the weight throw with a mark of 65-2/19.86m.

Currently tied for No. 16 nationally, Weir will have to await the results of other meets today to see if she will advance to the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.

Lauren Crockett was the runner-up in the women’s high jump with a clearance at 5-9.25/1.76m. Chancey Summers also cleared 5-9.25 but was third based on misses.

Yesterday, the Ducks also competed at the Alex Wilson Invitational at Norte Dame where the men’s distance medley relay team ran a season-best 9:31.91 to finish sixth in its heat.

The team of Matt Miner, Arthur Delaney, Boru Guyota and Brett Johnson finished 15th overall at a meet that had 16 of the nation’s top 17 distance medley relay times. The top 12 teams from South Bend all qualified for next weekend’s NCAA Indoor Championships, with the Ducks missing a bid by less than a second.
