Houston defensive end Zeke Riser will soon be packing up his bags and heading for Austin.
ESPN.com’s Max Olson reported that Riser, who graduated from Houston in December, plans to transfer to Texas and walk on to the team.
Olson reported that Texas could not confirm that Riser will join the program just yet, but in the meantime, Riser laced up his shoes for his first spring practice last weekend.
He’s also prepared to compete for precious playing time in his final season of eligibility.
“I wouldn’t go to any place that I wasn’t expecting to compete for a starting spot,” Riser told ESPN.com. “I’ve never sat on the bench in my life and I don’t plan to at Texas.”
Riser’s possible addition would mean another defensive end to replace Alex Okafor, who is headed for the NFL. Fellow defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat will return in 2013.
