Magazine ranks UCLA eighth best university in the world based on reputation, 13th overall

UCLA has once again moved up the ranks in terms of world university reputation, according to the analyses of a British higher education magazine released Monday.

The Times Higher Education magazine ranked UCLA as the eighth best university in the world based on reputation – up one spot from its position last year. The University of Tokyo was eight last year, but dropped to ninth this year.

The rankings are based on about 16,600 responses to a survey asking for the academic opinions of established scholars at various universities across 144 countries, according to the magazine’s website.

UC Berkeley, Stanford University and Princeton University’s reputations were ranked just above UCLA – 5th, 6th and 7th place, respectively.

For the second year in a row, the magazine listed UCLA as 13th in its overall rankings of universities, which evaluate an institution’s standing based on a more comprehensive analysis of its services, including its quality of teaching, research, income and international influence.
