Alleyne, a forward for the Ducks, averages 13.0 points, 11.8 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game this season for Oregon.

In addition, Alleyne also earned the league’s freshman of the year in a vote conducted by media covering Pac-12 women’s basketball.

On the men’s side, there is talk that senior E.J. Singler is a contender for player of the year.

According to Bob Clark of The Register-Guard, Singler was at least in the discussion of Pac-12 coaches who were asked Tuesday during the weekly conference call about which players they would consider voting for when ballots are sent in on Sunday.

It has been 10 years since Oregon had the conference player of the year in men’s basketball, the last winner being Luke Ridnour in 2003.

The Ducks got a 4-1 win in their final game of a two game series against Cal State Northridge yesterday afternoon. Starting pitcher Jeff Gold was vital in the team’s win, bringing Oregon’s record to 10-3 for the season. The Emerald’s Aubrey Wieber has a recap here. Gold also combined with this incredible play that found its way into the SportsCenter Top Ten.

Sources told ESPN that the ACC would allow Notre Dame to join the league this summer if the Fighting Irish can exit the Big East Conference.

Notre Dame intended to stay in the Big East through the 2013-14 season as long as the league’s seven Catholic basketball schools remained. But those schools — DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, St. John’s, Seton Hall and Villanova — are expected to announce that they are leaving the Big East to begin their own league on July 1.

According to Associated Press, an 18-year-old Manchester United fan became so incensed after United midfielder Nani was red-carded for dangerous play during Tuesday’s 2-1 loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League that he felt the need to do something.

The unidentified fan called Nottinghamshire Police during the match to report a crime. Today, he apologized and was let off without punishment.

Perhaps this will provide ESPN with some new material for their  “It’s Not Crazy, It’s Sports” brand campaign.
