On Tuesday, Oregon’s very own Emancipator will visit the WOW Hall stage alongside U.K. down tempo producer Little People and Washington natives Odesza. Emancipator, whose last performance in Eugene dates back to almost exactly one year ago, is trekking along the West Coast in support of his latest album, “Dusk To Dawn.”
Touring in support of Emancipator is a duo of Northwest natives known as Odesza. Before the collaboration, the two producers were known by their separate production monikers, Catacombkid and BeachesBeaches. The recent college graduates from Oregon’s northern neighbor, Washington, were taken under the wing of Emancipator and are touring in support of their most recent release, “Summer’s Gone.”
“We’re really pumped to play with someone who has inspired and influenced us,” said Harrison Mills (Catacombkid). “We’re just excited to play our music in front of people. It really hasn’t hit us yet. This is a great opportunity for us to get.”
Odesza has never played Eugene and Mills said that he doesn’t know what to expect but is delighted by the opportunity of playing the WOW Hall alongside artists he respects. The Northwest in general, he explained, plays an important role in the aesthetic of Odesza and playing in the Northwest is equally special.
“I think that the Northwest, when it’s summer, it’s the best place to be in the States,” he said. “We both really love the Northwest and sometimes it gets rainy, but it has that nostalgia feel for really good times.”
This tour is just one opportunity of many ahead for Odesza. While Mills is bashful about the success of Odesza, the fact of the matter is, this tour and their upcoming appearance at this year’s Sasquatch! festival is proof that they’re headed towards increased exposure.
“Right now we want to just progress as musicians and bring everything up to the next level,” Mills said.
Tuesday night will be a night of downbeat electronica with beautifully crafted instrumentation. Emancipator will be bringing along his trademark violinist, which adds yet another element to the night’s entertainment.
Emancipator and his fellow cohorts will descend on the WOW Hall on March 12. Doors open at 8 p.m. and tickets are $18 in advance and $20 at the door. Tickets are available online and at the WOW Hall box office.
