UPDATE: Andre Roberson is out with a viral infection for Colorado. UCLA and Cal losses last night mean Oregon can clinch No.1 seed for Pac-12 Tournament with a win tonight.
Carlos Emory jammed the ball through the net and Oregon took a 47-40 lead with 4:29 left in the game. All Oregon had to do was protect the lead and score a few more baskets against Colorado. The Ducks did neither.
The last time the Oregon and Colorado mens’ basketball teams squared off, the home-squad Ducks collapsed in the final stretch of play, failing to score for nearly four and half minutes, while allowing the Buffaloes to score the last eight points of the game, which was enough for Colorado to steal a 48-47 win on the road.
The Pac-12’s leading rebounder, Andre Roberson, collected his own miss at about the two minute mark and then scored to pull Colorado within one point. He did the same thing with around 30 seconds to play to give his team the lead and eventual win.
Arsalan Kazemi, the Ducks’ top rebounder and third in the Pac-12, didn’t take kindly to being outshined on the boards when it counted.
“When we talk about the Colorado game those last two possessions come to my mind and I’m not going to let it happen again,” Kazemi said.
Kazemi and his teammates will have a chance to hit back against the team that handed the Ducks their third loss during a midseason skid, when Oregon and Colorado play at Matthew Knight Arena on Thursday night at 6pm.
“We didn’t finish a lot of plays inside,” Ducks’ head coach Dana Altman said, in reference to the teams’ last meeting. “We had some bad turnovers. We are going to have to do a better job all-around.”
Sophomore guard Spencer Dinwiddie, who averages 15.2 points per game, leads the Buffs while Askia Booker, Josh Scott and Roberson also add over 10 per contest. E.J. Singler is currently tops for Oregon in scoring with 11.5 per game.
Colorado has won three of the last four against Oregon, each by just one point.
