Dozens of police officers responded to a call citing a riot near Fox Theatre on the Hill around 6 p.m. Monday, when 200-300 people were waiting in line for a free Tyler, the Creator concert.
“There was not a riot,” Kim Kobel, spokeswoman for Boulder Police Department, said. “There was just a very, very large crowd.”
The officers’ priority was making sure that everyone was safe, Kobel said.
“Right now we have officers in the area for crowd control,” she said at around 8 p.m. “We don’t have any reports of any police officers being harmed or anything like that.”
Kobel said that an altercation down the street from the Fox may have prompted the issue.
Police closed 13th Street between College Avenue and Broadway outside of the Fox and University Avenue east of Broadway as a staging area for at least two dozen first-responder vehicles and personnel.
No one has been arrested, Kobel said, but there have been conflicting reports on that point.
