USAC Meeting Roundup – March 12

The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government of UCLA’s undergraduate students. Council meetings are Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff 417 and are open to all students.

Agenda
  • The weekly contingency allocations were unanimously approved.
  • The council unanimously voted to pass a bylaw change proposal, which President David Bocarsly and Facilities Commissioner Stephen Kraman presented, to restructure the appointments section of the bylaws to make them more consistent.
  • The council unanimously voted to pass the bylaw change proposal, which Academic Affairs Commissioner Kim Davis presented, to update the duties for the academic affairs commissioner.
  • The council unanimously voted to pass the Southwest Asian North African resolution, which supports the idea of adding multiple ethnicities to the University of California application, an initiative that the UC Office of the President is considering.
  • Taylor Mason, cultural affairs commissioner, was absent.
Appointments
  • The council unanimously appointed Nick Montion, a second-year psychology and political science student, to the UCLA LGBTQ affairs committee.
Officer Reports
  • David Bocarsly, USAC president, said the language for the USAC endowment is complete.
  • Andrea Hester, internal vice president, said her office is working on creating a workshop to train the next new USAC officers.
  • Kim Davis, academic affairs commissioner, said the Undergraduate Student Initiated Education program will now offer 30 student-taught classes instead of 15 and there will be information sessions about the classes on April 9 and April 16 in Kerckhoff Hall.
  • Lana Habib El-Farra, external vice president, said her office plans to hold “How to Lobby” workshops next quarter.
Special Presentations
  • Hoku Jeffrey, a representative of A Call to Action for Full Citizens Rights for All, presented to the council about the importance of full citizens rights for all students.
  • Vanessa Luke, a representative from the Bruin Resource Center, presented to the council about some of the current projects the center is focusing on, namely integrating transfer students more into the university.
