Arizona and UCLA to battle in Pac-12 basketball semifinal

Fans in attendance for the first semifinal matchup of the Pac-12 men’s basketball tournament should expect a shootout. The conference’s top two scoring teams square off, as top-seed UCLA takes on the four-seed in Arizona at 6:30 p.m. The Bruins average 75 points per contest while Arizona scores 73.4. The winner will advance to play either Utah or Oregon.

UCLA is coming off a comeback win against Arizona State on Thursday, as freshman Shabazz Muhammad led the Bruins in a late charge to overcome a 15-point deficit. Arizona almost allowed Colorado to steal the win in that quarterfinals showdown, but the Wildcats withstood a late surge from their opponent and won by 10 points.

UCLA and Arizona met twice during the regular season with the Bruins winning both by a combined 16 points.

Mark Lyons, a senior transfer from Xavier, leads Arizona at the point with almost 15 points per game. Solomon Hill and Nick Johnson average 13.6 and 11.6, respectively.

Muhammad is UCLA’s go-to guy, and he typically tallies in the neighborhood of 18 points. Jordan Adams tosses in 15.2 and Travis Wear contributes 11.

Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. and the game is televised on Pac-12 Networks.
