We at the Clog love a good cup of coffee. In the midst of midterms and drowning beneath gargantuan stacks of assignments and six-page essays, we’re sure that every student here does, too. So we can definitely appreciate the coffee-cup street art we’ve spotted around Berkeley lately. Now we can get our coffee fix from the GBC while walking along Dwight’s crooked sidewalks.
What does it mean? Who’s the artist? We have no idea. We tried good ol’ Google, but we didn’t find any profound explanations. Apparently, this image has been spotted outside of campus and around the city of Berkeley as well. The coffee cups sometimes take on different styles (one looks more like the tall paper Starbucks coffee cup, and the other resembles a mug), but they are always distinguishable by the label “OHIOE.” We’re assuming that this is the artist’s identifier. Who knows — maybe it’s not just one person. It could be a whole clandestine discipleship of coffee-cup graffiti enthusiasts. But we don’t really mind not knowing. Anonymity and mystery, it’s all part of the fun.
If you’ve recently become disenchanted with walking to class or have a sudden urge to play “Where’s Waldo,” channel your inner detective and join the Clog in discovering more coffee cups. We’ve found three already. We’ll even give you some clues (we’re so nice). One is located on a sewer cap about a ten-minute walk away from Dwinelle, another is near a bus stop; and another, as we mentioned before, is located on one of Dwight’s crooked sidewalks.
