The Hartford Baseball team has been on a roll of late winning their last four games improving their record to 7-4 in conference play.

Their first two games they played in a double-header against UMBC on March 6 at home.

In the opening game, both teams were trading off runs in the first couple innings of play.

After a 3-3 ball game, the Hawks scored five runs including four runs in the third inning.

Chris DelDebbio got Hartford started by doubling to right field scoring James Alfonso. An RBI single, sac fly and walk would score the other three runs.

Alfonso would score again in the fourth on a wild pitch giving the Hawks an 8-3 lead, which they would hold for the remainder of the game.

UMBC would have a chance to even things up in game two.  After five scoreless innings, the Retrievers would score two runs on a triple by Kevin LaChance and a single by Brandon Coluccio.

Trey Stover would bat in Hartford’s first run after a sharp hit down the left field line followed by Brady Sheetz who singled as well scoring Stover to knot the game at two in the bottom of the eighth.

After an amazing 16 innings and over fours later, Hawk Adam Touhey singled to left scoring the winning run.  Brian Hunter pitched 8 innings for Hartford only letting up one run and striking out six.  The Hawks would go on the road to play UMBC for the third straight game.

Hawk Brian Estevez would score his team’s first run after a pass ball.  Hartford would add three more runs in the fourth inning after a single by Touhey scoring Ryan Lukach and a double by Pat Knauth scored Touhey and DelDebbio.

UMBC would score a run in the eighth on a fielder’s choice, but would fall for the third straight time 6-1.

Sean Newcomb pitched a beauty letting up one run and striking out seven in 7.1 innings of play and reliever Brian Murphy would finish the job striking out two in 1.2 innings.

The Hawks would stay on the road heading to Bridgeport, CT to play Sacred Heart.  Hartford would get off to a great start scoring four runs in the second off a double by Aaron Wilson and two errors.

Sacred Heart would answer back with two runs of their own off a hit by Victor Sorrento and a fielder’s choice.

The Hawks would seal the deal in the eighth scoring three runs on a wild pitch, walk and a hit by pitch.

Hartford would win 8-4 improving to 9-19, while Sacred Heart lost their 15 game of the season.

Sean Newcomb is still a big weapon in the bullpen, while Trey Stover has been named Player of the Week in Hartford Sports for his performances.

The Hawks will spend the weekend at Stony Brook University to play them in a double-header.  The first game will start at 12:00 p.m.
