The new group came before the ASUO Senate for the third consecutive term to request enough funds to rent rooms to practice and hold workshops.

The group has performed at many events this year and is looking to increase their presence on campus.

“We’re trying to give back to the students and grow a dance community at the University of Oregon,” a representative of the group said.

But the group doesn’t just plan to represent the UO on campus.

“We’ve gone to Oregon State University for their dance for charity events, so we’re also representing our university from outside,” a representative said.

Originally, Duck Street Dance Club was requesting almost $1,200 from surplus, but many senators voiced their concern in funding the full request while the body’s pool of money dipped below $3,300 for the remainder of the term.

Senators and ASUO Vice President Nick McCain presented a number of alternative methods forĀ receivingĀ funding for the group’s request without having to request the full amount from Senate.

Ultimately, McCain made the motion to grant the group $600, taking into account a possible $500 award from the Student Recreation Center Advisory Board and a $200 co-sponsorship with the ASUO Executive.

McCain’s motion passed 14-3-1.
