Ready for the new Sick Puppies album? Well so are they.
The Australian rock ‘n’ roll band has rolled onto mainstream charts over the past decade with hits like “All the Same,” “Maybe” and “Odd One.”
Their new album hopefully hits stores later this year but until then, they’re focusing on getting back to touring the United States. One of the biggest stops on this tour is none other than the music juggernaut known as Carolina Rebellion.
Carolina Rebellion is held on the Rock City Campgrounds at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. It annually brings the biggest names in rock ‘n’ roll to the Charlotte area.
The Sick Puppies will be sharing the bill with other hard rock titans such as Bush, Bullet For My Valentine, Halestorm, Papa Roach and Three Days Grace.
And with other headliners such as Soundgarden, Rise Against, Limp Bizkit, 3 Doors Down, and Alice In Chains, the Carolina Rebellion looks to be a frantic and fantastic two day festival for fans in the area.
The Sick Puppies will be playing the Main Stage of the Carolina Rebellion on Saturday, May 4th.
And the Niner Times was able to speak with the band’s lead singer and lead guitarist Shimon Moore.
He opened up about their upcoming album and playing this year’s Carolina Rebellion.
Okay, I’m going to go ahead and ask you what all of your fans are thinking: The new album, “Under the Black Sky.” What’s the inspiration?
“That’s actually not the new name, that’s just a rumor. It’s actually a song called that. That was all we said, that was it. I can’t tell you what it is yet. But I can tell you about the record. This album though is much more musical, we constantly spoke to our fans while making this record. We asked them ‘What do you want to hear?’ We wrote over 100 hundred songs over the last year. One night we were jamming and someone asked us ‘What’s that song called?’ And we were like ‘Oh you know, “Under the Black Sky”’ and then next thing you know they thought that was the name of the new record.”
Everyone is stoked for Carolina Rebellion this year. On the first day of the festival, you’ll be sharing the stage with the Deftones, Three Days Grace, Alice in Chains, and Bullet for My Valentine. Who are some of the artists from the modern era in music who you really like?
“That’s a tough one. I’m really into older bands. I like the independent music that’s out now. But ever once and a while I’ll see someone who really rocks it. There’s a band called the Strokes, their stuff is really good. Stuff like Avenged Sevenfold. Some bands come out and do the same thing but not them man, they’re great. They are one of the hottest bands out there. Look at their fans. But I really look forward to seeing the Deftones perform. I really like them.”
It must be a real challenge to maintain a strict touring schedule as well as make the album, right? How are you guys managing to do that?
“It was so easy. Know what we did? We didn’t tour. We did not tour at all. I love playing shows man but I really love being in the studio. They asked if we could do better and I was like yeah we could always could do better. The show you are referring to is one of the first shows that get us back on.”
Carolina Rebellion kicks off on Saturday, May 4 to Sunday, May 5 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.
