Although Stanford’s Kori Carter got the best start in the women’s 100-meter hurdles, Clemson’s Brianna Rollins exploded to the finish line in 12.39, breaking the Hayward Field record and the collegiate record.
Still in stride, both Rollins and Carter embraced, celebrating their top finishes.
“It was so amazing to see her come out here and shatter the 400-meter record, especially at a young age,” Carter said. “She did a wonderful job, it made me very excited.”
With the best time in the world this year, Rollins wasn’t concerned about running a specific time, just running for first.
“I just came out here and tried to run great, and everything happened on its own,” Rollins said. “It’s so amazing, the crowd is too appreciative, and I’m just so thankful to come out here and run in one of the best stadiums in the country.”
Moving forward Rollins hopes to make the world team and continue to set records.
“I just continue to stay focused and not try to think about time and just let things happen on their own,” Rollins said.
