Carson York, former offensive lineman for the Oregon Ducks, is a long way from home. The native of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho is part of a six-week internship program in Accra, Ghana. York is enjoying the program along with fifteen other UO Journalism students. The internship opportunities are varied; with the options ranging from working at a communications and reputation management organization to a local radio station. All the students, York included, also must make entries to a blog related to their time in Ghana.

The Butkus Award is an annual honor given to the top linebackers at the high school, collegiate professional levels of football. The award is named after College and Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Dick Butkus. Traditionally the award was only given to the top collegiate linebacker, but since 2008 the field has been expanded to its current format. This year Oregon linebacker Boseko Lokombo has been placed on the 2013 watch list for the award. The list includes 51 other linebackers from around the Nation.

The Denver Broncos suspended two executives Monday after learning about their drunken-driving arrests. Both executives were suspended without pay, though the lengths of their respective suspensions differed. Matt Russell, director of player personnel, was suspended indefinitely while Tom Heckert, director of pro personnel was suspended for one month without pay. Russell was arrested after rear-ending a police officer’s SUV. The NFL doesn’t plan to add any additional punishment on top of what Denver’s organization has already decided.

After being amnestied by the Los Angeles Lakers, veteran small forward Metta World Peace has agreed to a two-year deal with the New York Knicks. Reportedly the first year of the deal is worth 1.6 million. World Peace, who is a New York native, had stated the Knicks as one of the few teams he would consider playing for next season. The other two destinations he had stated interest in were the Los Angeles Clippers or playing overseas in Shanghai.
