An Emerald photographer spotted several police vehicles filled with a SWAT unit in the area surrounding Patterson Alley and 17th Avenue.

According to another tweet by Cree Riggs, executive producer of KVAL, police are near Valley River Center. The tweet goes on to say that EPD has acknowledged something is going on, but they refused to comment on the reason.

It is unclear at this time if the two events are related.

According to a EPD spokeswoman Melinda McLaughlin, the sightings may be related to a training exercise. SWAT teams have been in the area for the better part of the week and that there’s no dispatch entry for the team that’s on 17th at the moment, which is usually indicative of training.
