Emeralds snap losing streak, beats Everett 5-1

The Eugene Emeralds finally broke its five game losing streak Friday night as they traveled to defeat the Everett Aquasox 5-1. It was a balanced attack for the Emeralds, as all five of their runs were scored by different players.

Eugene was able to win the game by capitalizing on the numerous mistakes made by Everett. Walks and wild pitches from Thyago Vieira, the starting pitcher for the Aquasox, allowed the Ems to strike first. They picked up two runs in the second inning thanks to a pair of RBIs from Chase Jensen and Henry Charles. Vieira struggled in the inning, as both runs were scored off of his mistakes.

In the third inning Eugene scored again when Michael Miller connected on a two-out RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0.

Vieira lasted six innings before he was finally pulled. He allowed three runs on just two base hits, but he walked three and struck two batters.

The Aquasox did finally break through in the sixth inning after a wild pitch put runners on the corners with two outs. Reggie Lawson then stepped up with an RBI single, bringing in teammate Jack Reinheimer and cutting the lead to 3-1. However the comeback was short lived as the Emeralds answered with two more runs in the seventh inning. Both were scored without a hit as Vieira’s replacement Richard White was just as sloppy for Everett. Ronnie Richardson scored after a missed throw, followed up by a sacrifice fly from Wynton Bernard which increased the lead to 5-1.

The Emeralds played strong in the field as well, and the pitchers had yet another impressive showing. Erik Schoenrock started the game for the Emeralds, pitching three innings while only allowing one hit. Kyle Lloyd picked up his fourth win pitching five innings in relief. Lloyd also finished the night with seven strike outs. Combined the pitchers only allowed Everett five hits.

With the win Eugene is now 5-1 against Everett on the season, and only four games out of first place. The next game in the series is scheduled to take place Saturday.
