Ducks land commitment from four-star RB Tony James

According to Derek Tyson of ESPN.com, James, a four-star running back out of Gainesville, Fla., committed to play for Mark Helfrich and the No.2 Oregon Ducks early Sunday morning. James was in town for Oregon’s 55-16 rout of the California Golden Bears last night, which must have been enough to convince him to play for the Ducks next fall.

James is the second running back in the 2014 class to commit to the Ducks, joining 5-star running back Royce Freeman who committed in July. The future combination of Freeman and James could be lethal to Pac-12 opponents. James’ speed and acceleration match up perfectly with Freeman’s ability to run between the tackles and deliver a blow to any defender who gets in his way.

James’ evident commitment represents Oregon’s ability to recruit anywhere in the nation. With the University of Florida in his own town, and the rest of the Southeastern Conference in his backyard, James decided to join a team and an offense that’s built on his most prized attribute — speed — even if that team resides on the other side of the country.
