“There are lots of great opportunities for us to put the Ducks in successful positions,” head coach Robert Johnson said of the upcoming meets this weekend. “Good opportunity for our kids to get some regional qualifying marks.”

Most of Oregon will remain at home to compete, while a small group will be traveling down to the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut Creek, Calif. Jenna Prandini, Christian Brennan and Phyllis Francis are some of the athletes who will be traveling over the weekend.

The Oregon Relays will combine both collegiate and high school competition, with athletes from Idaho, Washington and California all coming to Eugene to compete.

“This is the biggest high school meet in the Pacific Northwest,” Johnson said. “We are really excited to see them compete.”

For the fans who attend the Oregon Relays, one of the main events to watch will be the men’s 5,000, which features three-time national champion Edward Cheserek and All-American transfer Eric Jenkins. Racing against them will be several Oregon alums, including Matthew Centrowitz and Luke Puskedra.

“Lots of our former athletes are coming back, which we always like,” Johnson said.

For Cheserek, the meet will be his home debut as an Oregon runner.

“This is something he has been looking forward to all season long,” Johnson said when asked about Cheserek’s thoughts heading into the meet. “He is excited, we’re excited and hopefully there will be a good contingent of fans here to support him.”

The first day of the Oregon relays will be on Thursday, a day that will be exclusively dedicated to the heptathlon and decathlon. The first event will begin at 1 p.m.
