Nils Schyllander named Wilson/ITA Regional Coach of the Year

In his eighth season in charge of the Oregon men’s tennis program, Schyllander guided the Ducks to a 17-10 record that included six wins over nationally ranked opponents. Oregon also reached the Pac-12 Championships semi-final for the first time ever and did so by defeating Stanford for only the second time in program history.

It was a culmination of things for Schyllander, who arrived in Eugene, Ore. in 1999 as an assistant coach for the women’s program. A native of Tessinkolan, Sweden, Schyllander would take head coaching reigns in 2003 and over the course of four seasons would record a 58-41 record.

In 2006, Schyllander took over a men’s program that hadn’t reached double-digit wins in four years. Since then, Oregon has reached double-digits in the win category in seven-of-the-eight seasons under Schyllander and has reached the 16-win mark three consecutive years.

No signs point to this type of performance leveling off either. Schyllander will return nine players, including six letter winners and looks poised to continue the impact he and the Oregon men’s tennis program is making on the record books.
