After receiving the No. 1 overall seed in the upcoming 2014 NCAA Women’s College World Series bracket, the Oregon softball team (49-7, 20-3 Pac-12) also poured in Pac-12 yearly honors.
Sophomore pitcher Cheridan Hawkins (30-4) was named the Pac-12 pitcher of the year. Hawkins, who is the second Oregon player to receive this honor (Jessica Moore), is also a top-10 finalist for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year.
Mike White was also named the Pac-12 coach of the year for the second-straight year. White led the Ducks to their first-ever No. 1 ranking in both the NFCA and USA softball polls and coached the Ducks to their second consecutive Pac-12 regular season title.
Also receiving honors was senior Courtney Ceo, who was named the Pac-12 batting champion. In addition to leading the league in batting average (.481) and hits (87), Ceo also held the third-best overall batting average in the country. Ceo is a top-10 finalist for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year and now a two-time first-team All-Pac-12 recipient.
Senior Alexa Peterson and junior Janie Takeda were named to the Pac-12 first team, while sophomore Koral Costa and sophomore Janelle Lindvall were named to the Pac-12 second team.
The Ducks are set to face Utah Valley (18-40, 5-9) in the first round of regionals at Howe Field this Friday.
