Westwood’s CityTarget on Weyburn Avenue has closed for part of Friday because of water leaking from a half-inch pipe on the store’s ceiling early this morning.
The leak, which started at about 3:30 a.m. on Friday, had stopped as of press time, but the store will stay closed until the leaked water is pumped out, according to a notice posted by the store.
Several staff members at the CityTarget said they expect the store to open around 3 or 4 p.m. on Friday and that there has been no damage to CityTarget merchandise.
Los Angeles Department of Water and Power officials said the leak did not have anything to do with LADWP and the half-inch pipe is part of Westwood CityTarget’s indoor sprinkler system.
Erik Scott, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman, said 27 firefighters at the scene used large squeegees to pump the water out of the store throughout the night and plastic coverings to protect merchandise. A fire captain suffered a non life-threatening injury from the repair process and no civilians were injured, he added.
There is currently no estimate from LAFD in terms of damages.
