Many college students live in some form of relative squalor. House after house show signs of neglect. Pizza boxes sprawl across the floor, liquor bottles line the tops of cabinets and drunken friends use the couch as a toilet in low moments.
This laissez-faire attitude stems from the fact that college lodgings are temporary. When leases end, past living spaces become little more than a memory.
