“Addicted” is based on the best selling erotic novel by Zane, and it shows. The film oozes with unneeded sexual desire and finds every excuse possible to put us in another wholly explicit, and simultaneously un-sexy sex scene between two incredibly attractive characters for no apparent reason. The film plays out like a Lifetime movie that somehow merged with softcore pornography, including the stale, lifeless actors. “Addicted” didn’t start horribly, I thought it could’ve been a guilty pleasure movie for some people, not myself personally, but some people. But what it divulged into was a ridiculous, yet inherently dull erotic thriller that is as pedestrian as it comes, up to it’s third act “twist” and an ending so beyond belief it hurts. What the film succeeds in is decent cinematography, and more unintentional laughs than the Westboro Baptist church can supply, I found myself not only laughing at the insane dialogue, but also through the ridiculous plot elements that almost seemed self aware. I honestly can’t write much more about “Addicted” because I just didn’t care about it. It’s not as horrendously bad as the Tyler Perry film “Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor”, but exists in it’s own dull realm of knock off thrillers trying to excite the “Fifty Shades of Grey” crowd before the film releases in February, which might not be worth my time writing about in perfect detail, and certainly isn’t worth your time seeing.
