Oregon relief pitcher Jordan Spencer will no longer play for Ducks’ baseball program, an Oregon official confirmed Thursday.
No reason was given for Spencer’s departure.
Spencer made 46 appearances on the hill over three seasons playing for Oregon. The southpaw pitched 91.2 innings, primarily in relief, with a career WHIP of 1.43. He finished 1-1 with a 2.78 ERA in 2014 and maintained an opposing batting average of .246.
Spencer would have likely seen ample playing time in the 2015 season as the longest tenured left-hander in the Oregon bullpen. He still has one year of eligibility remaining.
Spencer’s most notable outing for the Ducks came in his freshman year in 2011, when he pitched Oregon’s first no-hitter since the reinstatement of the baseball program in 2009. He struck out five against Portland in the complete game, conceding just one hit batsmen and allowing one runner to reach on an error. It was Spencer’s first and only shutout for Oregon.
Oregon will begin the 2015 season without its 6’0”, 239 lb. lefty on Feb. 13 in a four-game series against University of Hawaii in Honolulu.
